The  Indian  health Service  (IHS)  Provides  medical  assistance to eligible  American  Indian at  IHS  facilities  and  help pay  the  cost  of  some  service  provided  by  the non  -IHS  health  care  providers.

Minnesota  was the first to offers  such a the  plan ; 34 states  (Alabama ,Alaska, Arkansas, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Florida, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maryland, Minnesota, Mississippi, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, New Hampshire, New Mexico, North Carolina, North Dakota, Oklahoma, Oregon, South Carolina, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Washington, West Virginia, Wisconsin, Wyoming) now  offer  them.
